Outline of Research
In our laboratory, we are focusing onIn our laboratory, we are focusing on the analyses of small molecules including various biological samples, such as human and animal specimens, foods, and herbal medicines chemistry based on the techniques by a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS).
1. Biomarker discovery projects
We have established the protocol of MS-based metabolomic and lipidomic profiling, and applied for searching to identify the risk factors of disease expression and progression.
2. Research projects of purine metabolism
We mainly conduct quantification of purine content in food products, and determine the abundance of purine related metabolites in foods to develop the "guidelines" for the treatment of hyperuricemia and inform the clinical settings throughout Japan. We are also engaged in research to investigate purine metabolism mechanisms by analyzing foods, herbal medicines, cells and biological specimens obtained from model animals.
